Tonight: Cuba Canta substitutes for Avoctja and Raquel Aguirre on Musical Colors on KPFA-FM.
We will start off the show with a potpurri of Danzones recorded from 1916 to 1959. We will then interview members of Orquesta "La Moderna Tradicion" our local Charanga, as well as playing some of their music. Following that we will play some music from Cuba's big bands [Jazz Bands] and Conjuntos. We will complete the program with music from Cuba's new generation with some Timba, Reggaeton, and Hip-hop cubano. Radio Cuba Canta begins 2011 with recordings that Emiliano brought back from Cuba on his recent trip.
We'll start the program with recordings mostly from the era of the 1920s, then we'll have the Community Music Calender of Ron Flores 30 minutes into the program. Following the calender will be an hour of newly found classics from the 1940s and 50s. We will then round out the show with a half hour of music of the young Cuba of today.
